Tokyo 2020 Olympic games bronze medalist, Samuel Takyi said he was motivated by negative reactions prior to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games.
Samuel Takyi was the only Ghanian athlete to win a medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics despite defeat to an American boxer, Duke Ragan in the semi-final.
However, the then amateur boxer has disclosed what inspired him to work hard for glory.
“First of all, is by God’s grace. Before the Olympics people were saying a lot. I was motivated by the negative reactions after we were chosen. They were saying we were going to disgrace ourselves but I didn’t give up. Those people were behind my success at the Olympics.” He spoke to Atinka TV.
Ghanaian athletes have won a total of five Olympics medals, four (three bronze and one silver) in boxing, and a bronze medal by the under-23 Ghana national football team in 1992.
