Dennis Nana Dwamena is a singer-songwriter and producer from Ghana known professionally as Kidi. He made waves on the international scene with his Afropop hit ‘Touch it’ which has gained over 20 million streams on Spotify.
Biography of Kidi
Kidi was born on 18th August, 1993 in Accra to Gerald Thompson (his father) and Beatrice Thompson (his mother). He has two male siblings Phillip and Elliot. Kidi’s interest for music was noticed during his time at the University of Ghana. The singer recounts performing on stage at a campus event while he was at the University. In 2015, when he was still studying at the university, Kidi competed in the music reality show Mtn Hitmaker season 4 and won the competition at the age of 21.

After winning music reality show Mtn hitmaker season 4, Kidi was signed to a decorated record label Lynx entertainment.
Kidi’s debut studio single ‘Naadu’ featuring Mzvee was released in 2016 under Lynx entertainment. He released another single ‘Never again’ that same year. Then in 2017, he released ‘Say you love me’, his third single under Lynx entertainment’ which became a hit. Kidi came out with another song ‘Odo’ which became his breakthrough hit and garnered the artist a lot of streams and airplay that year. The remix of the song features Nigerian Afrobeat aces Davido and Mayorkun.
In 2019, Kidi released his debut studio album Sugar Daddy which featured the likes of Nigerian Afrobeats star Mr. Eazi. He also released his first EP ‘Blue‘ in 2020. The EP features the hit song ‘Say cheese’ which had a homemade video which the artist used to create awareness about the covid-19 pandemic that was prevalent at the time. In the video, the artist was seen sanitizing his hands and wearing a nose mask as a way of educating the public on the needful safety measures.
In 2021, Kidi released his second studio album ‘The Golden Boy’ which set an outstanding milestone as the most streamed Ghanaian album on Spotify with over 37 million streams in 2022. The album spans 14 songs which include ‘Mon Bebe’, ‘Spiritual’ and the global hit ‘Touch it’. The single ‘Touch it’ caught the attention of American rapper Tyga who later got featured by Kidi on the remix. Kidi released his second EP ‘4Play’ in 2022.
