Samuel Atta-Mills, brother of the late Professor John Evans Atta-Mills, has cautioned anyone who is playing politics with his brother’s death to stop.
Death, he continued, comes to everyone.
“If you want to play politics make sure that you use something more important, not about somebody’s death. Death was not created for Prof Atta-Mills alone,” the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem, told TV3’s Komla Kluste on Friday February 18.
His remarks follow the filing of a motion by some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to probe the death of Prof. Atta Mills.
Frank Annoh-Dompreh of Nsawam Adoagyrir, Habib Iddrisu of Tolon, Davies Ansah Opoku of Mpraeso, and Yves Nii Noi Hanson Nortey of Tema Central are the four NPP lawmakers who jointly filed the petition.
The motion, according to Mr Annoh-Dompreh, is patriotic and well-intentioned.
Nsawam Adoagyiri’s lawmaker stated that they are determined to get to the bottom of the problem.
“It’s unfortunate our colleagues are misinterpreting our patriotic and well-intended action. The late President was a National Asset without contention.
“We are determined to get to the bottom of this matter, regardless of your unjustifiable worry,” he tweeted on Friday February 18.
Meanwhile, two of the four NPP Members of Parliament who are said to have filed the motion have denied knowing about it.
They claimed they were ignorant and have written to the NPP leadership in Parliament to get their names removed from the proposal.
Davis Ansah Opoku, MP for Nyiaeso, and Yves Nii Noi Hansen Nortey, MP for Tema Central, are the two MPs.
“Though we are aware of a broader conversation on the motion, we are unaware of any such move being filed in our names and under our instruction.”
“We thus request that our names as co-sponsors of the abovementioned motion be expunged from your high office,” they wrote in a note to the Majority Leader on Friday, February 18.
“I am an accomplished citizen of Ghana, with All Rights accruing to me under the Constitution of the Republic. After 10 years of his death, I am respectfully requesting for an, INQUEST, into the death of President John Evans Atta-Mills. God bless our Homeland Ghana,” he earlier said in a tweet on Thursday February 3.
He also revealed that he was accused of having a hand in the death hence his call for the investigation.
In series of tweets on Thursday February 17, the Found and Director of the Atta-Mills Memorial Institute said “I love President Atta-Mills, but I have a RIGHT to protect the Anyidoho Family name. The INQUEST, is to save my PRECIOUS FAMILY NAME! The INQUEST has got nothing to do with any other FAMILY name.”
He added “The peabrians saying I have no locus to ask for an, INQUEST, into the death of President Atta-Mills, should know that; I am doing so because I have been accused of having a hand in the death of President Atta-Mills. I am doing so, to save, the Anyidoho Family name.”
